PUMPKIN CLUB

It’s not all about pumpkins – it’s more about community.

Throughout the year we run some great events for all the family:
In February, we have great fun at the Pirton Pensioners’ Party, a free event for those in receipt of a state pension (and their partners). There’s a delicious dinner, quizzes and entertainment.

On May Day, villagers and their friends can come together on Great Green to enjoy children’s dancing, live music, Morris Dancing, barbecue, Chapel Preserves, stalls, a drink or two at the pub and perhaps a picnic if the weather is good.

In June we hold a Summer Supper. Included in the ticket price there’s a buffet, drinks and entertainment, all hosted in beautiful surroundings. More information of the venue in 2022.

Yes, the Pumpkin Show is a highlight of the year. Held every October at the Village Hall, there are giant pumpkins and a nail-biting weigh-in, with the crowning of King or Queen Pumpkin for the heaviest. Other classes include best decorated pumpkin, cookery, art, photography, best pumpkin cheat, and a range of other vegetable classes. No vegetable is excluded to our knowledge! There are prizes for the children’s classes and a few for the adults. It’s a really great afternoon for all the family.

We finish off the year with a Santa visit on Christmas Eve. From around 6pm, watch out for him waving from his chimney as he makes his way around the village!

The Pumpkin Club has been going for more than 55 years and is an integral part of village life. We raise money through our events and through membership fees (a mere £3.50 per person or £7 per family per annum) to support village projects and finance the Pensioners’ Party. These have included providing and maintaining the defibrillator outside the Village Hall, helping finance the new village website, small grants towards the Christmas lights outside the Fox, and the village library boxes to name a few.

If you would like to find out more about the Pumpkin Club, would like to join or be involved as a volunteer, please contact Vanessa Cole on 07748 621486 or email [email protected]

Hope to see you at one of our events.
