PUMPKIN CLUB

It’s not all about pumpkins – it’s more about community!

Throughout the year we run some great events for all the family:

In February, we have great fun at the Pumpkin Party, a free event for those in receipt of a state pension (and their partners). There’s a delicious dinner, quizzes and entertainment.

On May Day, villagers and their friends can come together on Great Green to enjoy children’s dancing, live music, Morris Dancing, barbecue, Chapel Preserves, stalls, a drink or two at the pub and perhaps a picnic if the weather is good.

In June/July we hold a Summer Supper. Included in the ticket price there’s a buffet, drinks and entertainment. The supper will start with a glass of fizz or fruit cup in a beautiful garden, there will be the opportunity to undertake a short walk for those whose wish, and then a delicious meal in the New Community Pavilion!

Yes, the Pumpkin Show is a highlight of the year! Held every October at the Village Hall, there are giant pumpkins and a nail-biting weigh-in, with the crowning of King or Queen Pumpkin for the heaviest. Other classes include best decorated pumpkin, cookery, art, photography, best pumpkin cheat, and a range of other vegetable classes. No vegetable is excluded to our knowledge! There are prizes for the children’s classes and a few for the adults. It’s a really great afternoon for all the family.

We finish off the year with a Santa’s visit on Christmas Eve. From around 6pm, watch out for him waving from his chimney as he makes his way around the village!

The Pumpkin Club has been going for more than 60 years and is an integral part of village life. We raise money through our events and through our Friendship Scheme (£5 for an individual, £10 per family per annum) which we plough back into village projects to benefit the community. These have included providing and maintaining the defibrillator outside the Village Hall, installing and maintaining the Village May Pole, small grants towards camping equipment for the Scouts and wooden play apparatus for the school.
