St Mary’s Church has stood at the heart of the village for more than 800 years, as a focus for Christian faith, worship and service. Today, we offer a warm welcome to share in the life of the church -helping to care for the fine ancient building, joining in weekly Sunday worship at 11am, including Messy Church, and celebrating special occasions such as christenings and weddings (and funerals).
The Grade 1 listed building is unusual for its simplicity and lack of stained glass. This was the result of a war-time doodle bug which shattered almost all the old glass. Recently improved to include modern amenities, it is set in beautiful surroundings on a loop off the Icknield Way.
There is a bellringers group who are always keen to include new members, a weekly informal Bible reflection group and a parish magazine.
The Friends of Pirton Parish Church provides funding needed to maintain and improve the Norman Church of St Mary’s. Their showcase is the Pirton Open Gardens usually held in June which has been running for over 30 years. Revenue from this popular event contributes significantly to our cause and along with other donations and subscriptions collected by the Friends the overall income enables us to pledges support for the on-going maintenance and improvements to the fabric of the church.

The Parish of St. Mary’s is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer, PSO. The Diocese of St.Albans’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
We look forward to welcoming you at Sunday service. For service updates you can find us on facebook at @stmaryschurchpirton or on our YouTube channel ‘HIP Benefice Churches’.
